The Duchess of Edinburgh opts for impeccable haircut at the British Fashion Council awards

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, looked stylish at a British Fashion Council event today, ahead of London Fashion Week tomorrow.

The 59-year-old princess, who is often seen in floor-length, floral dresses, made a statement in a more fitted look as she presented the British Fashion Council’s Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design at the Royal Academy of Arts in central London.

Prince Edward’s wife Sophie, 60, opted for wide-leg tweed trousers with patch pockets and a burgundy V-neck blouse with blouson sleeves.

The mother of two completed her fall outfit with black patent leather pointy-toe pumps and a patent clutch.

Sophie wore her blonde hair brushed back behind her ears to reveal a pair of gold hoop earrings with delicate dark red gemstones attached.

The Duchess beamed as she presented the British Fashion Council’s Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to 27-year-old London menswear designer Steven Stokey-Daley.

The prize took the form of a large silver vase decorated with roses and colorful leaves.

Previous winners of the award, which was created “in recognition of the role industry plays in society and diplomacy”, include Richard Quinn – who received the award from Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 – Saul Nash and Priya Ahluwalia.

The award also aims to highlight young designers who are making a difference in society, whether through sustainable practices or community engagement.

Steven Stokey-Daley, who worked on menswear collections at Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford before creating his own SS Daley label, has built a solid celebrity following, with fans including pop star Harry Styles – who has even invested in the brand.

Sophie also greeted other attendees, including British Fashion Council chief executive Caroline Rush CBE and BBC radio and television presenter Clara Amfo.

While Caroline opted for a bottle green dress and wrap, Clara chose a turquoise shirt with green patterns for the occasion.

In early September, Sophie attended a Paralympic equestrian event in Versailles near Paris.

The Duchess appeared in good spirits as she smiled for the cameras alongside Prince Edward.

Focused on the sporting events, the royal couple cheered on Team GB from the stands.

Sophie wore a flowing black dress embroidered with a daisy print for the Games.

She accessorized her understated ensemble with a pair of gold hoop earrings and chic, oversized sunglasses.

Her comb-cut hair was pulled back, giving her a clear view of the action.

Prince Edward, meanwhile, was dressed casually in a blue checked shirt, black blazer and navy suit trousers.

He showed his support for the Games with a navy blue Paralympic jersey and sunglasses.

The British Grade V team is ranked tenth, behind the United States and Italy. Norway, the Netherlands and Germany occupy the top spots.
